Comparing the priesthood to a rocket and the Atonement to the payload the rocket delivers.
We need the Savior’s atoning power.
Priesthood is essential – ordinances and covenants are delivered through its authority.
Minor defects in a rocket can cause a mission failure.
Purpose of priesthood is to invite others to come unto Christ and receive His restored gospel.
God’s atoning power is made accessible through the priesthood.
The purpose of using the priesthood in any way is to assist Heavenly Father in his work – providing redemption and exaltation to His children.
Receive God’s oath and His promise (Doctrine and Covenants 84:33-44)
David F. Evans – Seventy
Willingness to be patient is part of our search for truth.
Moroni 10:3-5 – in order to “receive these things” you need to read the book.
Pledge to give 100% the rest of your life – whatever you are asked to do, do it.
One’s own effort to gain a personal testimony begins with reading the Book of Mormon from the beginning.
Our search for truth should come from the best books, sources.
Each of us has a responsibility to do what it takes to obtain and maintain a personal testimony.
Nothing wrong with questions – build foundation on what you know as you seek answers.
Membership in the Lord’s church is to be cherished.
Richard J. Maynes – Seventy
Earning the Lord’s trust.
When we keep our promises to the Lord, His trust for us grows.
Trust is built on integrity.
Integrity – intentions and actions are righteous.
Scriptural phrase – “Integrity of heart.”
Family Proclamation – responsibilities of fathers (3)
Peace in the home comes from trust between husband and wife.
Once you compromise your integrity, it is very hard to get it back. Never do it.
Hymn – How Firm a Foundation
Dieter F. Uchtdorf – Second Counselor, First Presidency
Sometimes it helps to talk to someone about our troubles.
Just because spiritual trials are real does not mean they are incurable.
The healing power of Jesus Christ is not absent in our day.
Whatever causes our spiritual ailments, all have one thing in common – the absence of divine light.
When in darkness, we are unable to see our wrong doings.
When in the light we see things as they really are.
We find spiritual healing as we step away from the shadows of the world and towards the light of Christ.
Darkness vanishes in the presence of light.
In order for change to take place we must let the light in.
Night is nothing more than a shadow.
Even in the darkest of nights the sun still shines brightly (on the other side of the earth).
Darkness is not an indication that there is no light. It simply means we are not in the right place to receive the light.
It is up to us to be in the right place.
As a priesthood holder you are a bearer of light.
Henry B Eyring – First Counselor, First Presidency
The Lord requires faith from all who serve in His church.
You have the capacity to receive revelation and to act on it fearlessly.
Faith is essential.
Bishop will no succeed without the faith of the members to sustain him. The reverse is also true.
For a leader to succeed, the people must trust and believe that he has been called of God, regardless of his weaknesses and infirmities.
We need to see our leaders as the Lord did when He called them.
No leader of the church asked for their calling. None are perfect.
