Share the Gift – His Birth

The Church has started a new campaign to promote the life and gift of the Savior. As a member of the Church, and possessing a deep belief and love for Jesus the Christ, I thought I would share my feelings in a series of posts about different aspects of the Savior’s life that I feel are gifts that have made a significant impact to my life.

For thousands of years, prophets both in the Middle East and on the Ancient American continent, foretold the coming of a Savior, a Messiah.

“Therefore the Lord himself shall give you a sign; Behold, a virgin shall conceive, and bear a son, and shall call his name Immanuel.” – Isaiah 7:14 (Old Testament)

“And behold, he shall be born of Mary, at Jerusalem which is the land of our forefathers, she being a virgin, a precious and chosen vessel, who shall be overshadowed and conceive by the power of the Holy Ghost, and bring forth a son, yea, even the Son of God.” -Alma 7:10 (Book of Mormon)

His birth was within the most humblest of circumstances. Because of the influx of travelers to Jerusalem due to the tax (census) ordered by the king, there was no room in the inn for the mother of the Son of God.

The result was simple, but nonetheless, holy. In the quiet surroundings of a stable, Jesus was born, wrapped in swaddling clothes, and laid in a manger. The angels could not be restrained as they burst through the veil singing praises to God.

His birth is the gift of life. His life is the greatest of gifts to all of us. To comprehend the majesty of it all takes more than a lifetime. Unlike the inn, we can always open ourselves up and make room for the Savior.

His influence is everything to me. It is my rock, my foundation. I will thank God all my days for the gift of His Son.
