An Act of Charity

At my school’s weekly devotional meeting this week, I witnessed a special act of friendship and charity.

Each week, a young girl sits in my section. This young girl has a unique characteristic. Every few minutes, completely out of her control, it sounds as if she has a single, loud hiccup.

This week, a few minutes before the devotional began, she was sitting alone when a group of a few other students approached her, and asked if she would like to sit with them. I couldn’t help but smile and think to myself that that is what the Savior would have done in that situation.

“Ye are the light of the world. A city that is set on a hill cannot be hid. Let your light so shine before men, that they may see your good works, and glorify your Father which is in heaven.” –Matthew 5:14, 16

Friends Hugging Each Other_Friendship_Isnt That Charming

No one deserves to be alone, regardless of his or her circumstances. Everyone needs a friend.

All around us are people. Each is a child of God. As we strive to see others from that perspective, finding opportunities to serve and uplift will be more frequent. The hardest part may just be stepping our of your comfort zone.

Give it a try! The best part about reaching out to others is that not only do you make someone else’s day better, but you feel really good too. It’s a unique kind of happiness that isn’t to be found any other way.
