Recently I was introduced to a movie trailer for the upcoming movie “God is Not Dead.” The basic storyline portrays a Christian student taking a philosophy class, wherein on the first day his teacher makes clear his agreeable position on idea that God does not exist. He then gives an assignment to the class to write down three words…
God. Is. Dead.
The protagonist choses not to write something he does not believe. The antagonist teacher than tells him that if he really believes in the existence of God, than he needs to defend the antithesis in front of the class.
I’m really interested to see how this film turns out. I think the storyline shows a lot of promise, and I think that this is a good time in the world for this movie to share it’s message.
From just my own observations, it seems more obvious that non-believers are becoming more outspoken about their beliefs. Like the protagonist in the movie, I feel like the believer’s intention should not be to convince the non-believers of the existence of God, but more so to present more evidence, resulting in a clearer choice. We (believer and non-believer) shouldn’t feel entitled to make the choice for others, but to let others choose for themselves.
It is my belief and testimony that God is not dead. He is a real, tangible being. He is our Father. He loves us, and desires for us, His children, to be happy too. Everything around us, including ourselves, are too organized for there not to be a Source behind it all.
“…For behold, I say unto you, I know there is a God, and also that Christ shall come. And now what evidence have ye that there is no God, or that Christ cometh not? I say unto you that ye have none, save it be your word only. But, behold, I have all things as a testimony that these things are true; and ye also have all things as a testimony unto you that they are true…” -Alma 30:39-41 (Book of Mormon)
“…The scriptures are laid before thee, yea, and all things denote there is a God; yea, even the earth, and all things that are upon the face of it, yea, and its motion, yea, and also all the planets which move in their regular form do witness that there is a Supreme Creator.” -Alma 30:44 (Book of Mormon)
