Come Listen to a Prophet’s Voice

Every six months, member’s of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints gather from all over the world to “seek learning by study, and also by faith,” as they listen to leaders of the Church, both male and female, including the President of the Church, Thomas S. Monson.

The meetings originate from the Conference Center in Salt Lake City, Utah, just across the street from the Church’s headquarters. The first of the four main meetings will begin Saturday, October 5 at 10 a.m. MDT.

Why are these semi-annual events so important to members of the Church?

This question has a two-part answer. First, these are times members look forward to for hearing news of the Church. For example, where new temples of God will be built in the world, learning how many missionaries are currently serving, or changes in leadership positions.

Second, and most important, members of the Church come to hear the words of God, spoken from the mouths of his holy servants. We believe that the President of the Church, Thomas S. Monson is a literal prophet of God, like Moses.

Many come to these conferences to understand what God wants for them and their families. Leaders speak about a variety of subjects. Anyone who has a question such as “What can I do to strengthen my relationship with my family?” or “Is this man (Thomas S. Monson) really and truly God’s chosen prophet?” can listen to these conferences and find answers to such questions, if they truly desire to know, and are willing to act upon the inspired knowledge and inspiration they receive.

I look forward to General Conference for all of these reasons. All of the information learned from these meetings is nothing but beneficial. It helps me become a better man,  a better son, a better student, a better husband, a better child of my Heavenly Father.

Why not spend a few hours exposing yourself to pure goodness? I invite anyone who reads this to come listen to a prophet’s voice. You will hear the word of God.
